How to Install and Set Up Spot Fixtures
Spot fixtures run safely and last long when installed correctly. Below are the basic steps for classic recessed spots and modern magnetic track spots. For electrical work, we recommend working with a qualified person.
Safety First
Before starting, switch off the circuit breaker and confirm there is no voltage. Check the cross-section of existing ceiling cables and the driver/transformer capacity.
Make sure the fixture's wattage matches the driver's output power; overloading shortens lifespan.
Recessed Spot Installation
Cut a hole in the ceiling matching the fixture's body diameter (use the manufacturer's cut-out size). Connect supply cables as live-neutral-earth via the terminal block and add the driver in-line where required.
Squeeze the spring clips to seat the fixture; ensure it sits flush against the ceiling.
Magnetic Track Spot Setup
With magnetic track systems, the track is mounted first and connected to a 48V driver. The spot fixture then attaches magnetically — without screws — at any point on the track.
This greatly cuts installation time and lets you move the fixture later without cutting power.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I install spots myself?
Placing a magnetic track spot is quite simple, but for electrical work such as connecting the track and driver to the mains we recommend a qualified electrician.
Why choose a magnetic track spot?
For its screwless, fast installation, the ability to reposition without cutting power, and its modular structure.
